Description
Reverse-Chuck Big Bowls Without a Mark
Sized for larger work, the 400 mm Button Jaws grip bowls up to 400 mm (15.75") in diameter using rubber buttons that pull the finished piece gently back against the aluminum jaw plates. With the rim cushioned and the foot exposed, you can clean up the tenon, sign the bottom, or finish the underside without re-marking work you've already finished.
Made from lightweight aluminum to keep the rotating mass low. The rubber buttons cushion the rim and protect the finished surface — they're not suitable for bowls with very fine rims, where wooden jaw plates work better.
Compatible with SK100 and SK114 chucks; bolts directly to the accessory mounting jaws supplied with each chuck. Requires the Long Chuck Key for jaw clearance. Recommended maximum speed: 1,000 rpm. At 400 mm, motor clearance is especially important — verify your lathe motor doesn't obstruct these jaws before ordering.

In Detail
Same principle as the Button Jaws (250 mm), built for the bigger work — large bowls, platters, oversized vessels. The rubber button faces grip the rim from the outside while the foot stays clear for finishing cuts.
On a 400 mm jaw set, motor clearance and balance matter: stay at or below the 1,000 rpm recommended maximum, and confirm your lathe motor isn't obstructed by the larger jaw arc before mounting.
