Description

From Roughing Cut to Final Finish, Without Switching the Chuck

More than thirty-five years ago, Axminster built one of the world's first four-jaw self-centering chucks for woodturners. The Evolution SK114 is what that design has become after three decades of professional turner feedback — and this package brings the chuck plus everything you need to take a bowl blank from first roughing cut to finished form without removing it from the lathe.

The slim 114 mm (4.5") stainless steel body sits close to the headstock bearings to reduce vibration during heavy stock removal. Longer-than-typical SafetyJaw© accessory mounting jaws come factory-fitted, increasing contact area inside the chuck's slide ways and quieting vibration that shorter mounts can't.

Inside the box: the chuck, Type C Dovetail Jaws, a faceplate ring, screw chuck, and soft-grip key. Mount blanks via screw chuck for roughing, swap to the faceplate ring or Type C dovetails for refinement, and finish without ever changing the chuck on the spindle.

A Brief History of Axminster Chucks

Axminster built its first four-jaw self-centering chuck for woodturners more than 35 years ago. Most of what's followed has been driven by feedback from professional turners.

The Evolution range is the result of three-plus decades of design and production experience — refined, repeatable, and engineered to outlast a working career.

Every accessory jaw set the company has made is still compatible with a new Evolution chuck off the shelf. Backwards compatibility is the design principle, not an afterthought.

In Detail

The Evolution SK114 package gets a complete kit on your lathe in one purchase — the chuck plus the most-used accessories most turners would buy alongside it anyway.

The 114 mm (4.5") stainless body, 50 mm (1.97") deep, sits close to the headstock bearings for less overhang, less vibration, and smoother cuts. Type C Dovetail Jaws cover small bowls, end-grain work, and general bowl turning. The faceplate ring lets you mount blanks fast; the screw chuck handles initial bowl mounting while the outside form is shaped.
