Bore Without Withdrawing the Bit

An excellent improvement on the standard hollow live center, this version features three chip-ejection ports so during use the bit doesn't have to be completely withdrawn from the tailstock. With short and long removable points, twin ball bearings, and an 8 mm (5/16") through-hole, it's an invaluable aid for long-hole boring.

The short point protrudes a mere 3 mm beyond the ring and lets you make an accurate impression of the ring on the end of the timber. Once the impression is made, remove the point, relocate the work on the ring impression, and bore an accurate hole. When boring right through, drill from one end then reverse the timber, hold it in the headstock with a counterbore drive, and repeat the boring process from the tailstock end.

Fit the long point for good access on miniature work — light pulls, lace bobbins, and other small spindle pieces. 2MT (Morse Taper) shank fits any lathe with a 2MT tailstock socket.
