Description
Bench Connector Dogs Which Ingeniously Clamp from Above
Watch this video to see how easily you can extend and connect your 20mm worktops with Bench Connecting Dogs.
The latest addition to our growing line of Bench Connectors, Power‑Loc Dogs feature a patent-pending innovative cam action and swiveling locking lug that eliminates the need to use a clamping knob from beneath your workbench. Simply insert the Power-Loc Dog through the top of a chamfered 20mm dog hole, turn the socket head cap screw clockwise, and watch as the locking lug rotates outward and secures your worktops together. Power-Loc Bench Connector Dogs feature a total stock thickness capacity range from 30mm (1-3/16") to 40mm (1-9/16").
New! Two Versions Available with Different Clamping Ranges
Based on feedback from the TSO community, we've created a smaller version of the Power-Loc Dog ideal for use with a variety of TSO accessories or any use case where you need a clamping range less than 27mm (1.06"). This new, short dog has a clamping range of 15 to 29mm (0.59 to 1.14"), making it a great option for attaching accessories like the UJK Parf System Fence & Stop Kit; precision triangles (MTR-X, PTR-18, and MTR-18); and our Low & Ultra-Low Profile Bench Stops. With a shorter screw, they're also faster to clamp.
Choose your Power-Loc Dogs based on clamping range:
- Power-Loc 15-29 Dog: Clamping range of 15 to 29mm (0.59 to 1.14")
- Power-Loc 27-44 Dog: Clamping range of 27 to 44mm (1.06 to 1.73")
What's a "Bench Connector" Dog?
Modular and expandable work surfaces are nothing new, but craftsmen like Ron Paulk are pushing the concept forward with super lightweight, stowable, and flexible work surfaces. These designs utilize the familiar 20mm hole pattern as attachment points for layering additional work surfaces or jigs. Unlike traditional bench dogs which protrude from the work surface to act as a material stop, Bench Connector Dogs feature a chamfered lip that seats flush or slightly underneath your work surface.
While simple clamps can be used to layer and secure 20mm work surfaces, we're partial to Bench Connector Dogs for two main reasons: they provide precision registration and alignment of your work surfaces, and they apply strong clamping pressure without taking up valuable space on your worktop.
Picking the Right Bench Connector
The advantage of Power-Loc Dogs come in their self-contained clamping method. Rather than requiring an M8x1.25 clamping knob be attached and secured from underneath the table, Power-Loc Dogs are secured from the top of the table by way of an 5mm hex key or 5mm hex driver. This above-table clamping action may be preferred if the underside of your table is inaccessible, or if you don't wish to purchase or store additional clamping knobs.
Avoid over-torquing the Power-Loc Dog. A "snug fit" of the locking lug against the bottom work surface is all that is required.
To flush mount Power-Loc Dogs, you will need to chamfer the 20mm holes on your work surface. We recommend using a trim router with a quality 45˚ chamfer bit, as this allows you to perfectly adjust the depth of the chamfer to match these bench dogs. We do not recommend using the UJK Chamfer Tool in this instance, as its cutting depth is fixed and it is only recommended for MDF (not plywood).
