Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and continuous improvement of precision woodworking tools and accessories. You’ll work closely with Marketing, manufacturing, and suppliers to create robust, manufacturable, and user-friendly products that maintain TSO’s reputation for premium performance and quality.
Position Responsibilities
- Participates in the assessment of current solutions in the market
- Evaluates new trends in woodworking tools and equipment
- Identify innovative solutions when creating new products
- Works closely with Marketing and Operations
- Adheres to TSO Engineering processes
- Ensures projects meet DFM, quality, safety, cost, and performance objectives
- Supports strengthening and widening supply chain capability
- Participates in design reviews and FMEA
- Maintains engineering documentation and revision control throughout product lifecycle
- Supports manufacturing with creation of assembly processes, work instructions and fixturing
- Performs root-cause analysis for quality issues
- Supports customer service team with evaluating customer issues and returns
- Works with local and international suppliers to evaluate parts, processes, and verify part conformity
- Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives
- Prototypes and tests new designs to validate functionality, ergonomics, and accuracy
Position Requirements (Knowledge & Experience)
- BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 3-7 years of engineering product design experience
- 2+ years of manufacturing experience
- 2+ years of metal fabrication experience
- Experience with injection molding and sheet metal design helpful
- Experience with extrusion design helpful
- Experience with woodworking hand and power tools helpful
- Experience with consumer products helpful
- Self-motivated team player
- Proficient in Solidworks or equivalent parametric modeling software
- Proficient in Excel, Word, and other office applications
