Description
The Flip Stop, Perfected
Material stops are often overlooked, but they set the exact dimension of every rip — and that makes them one of the most important parts of the system. The new Flip Stop Pro takes that role seriously, giving you zero-deflection strength, zero-parallax accuracy, and a redesigned calibration system that sets once and holds — making it easier than ever to dial in precision.
Two Flip Stop Pros come standard with each Parallel Guide System Gen 2 kit, but extra stops let you pre-set common dimensions and switch between them without repositioning. They’re also backward-compatible with the original Parallel Guide System, making them an easy upgrade if you’re still using the first version.
A Closer Look at the Flip Stop Pro
Key Features
- Zero Parallax Cursor: A machined recess eliminates parallax, so readings are crystal-clear and precise from any angle.
- Dual-Arm Strength: Rock-solid and planted, minimizing deflection even when registering heavy sheet goods.
- One-Time Calibration, Done Right: A fine-thread, zero-backlash plunger lets you creep into alignment with natural, clockwise turns of a 3mm driver. Once set, it stays locked in calibration, even with repeated contact. No fussing, no drift.
- Longer Contact Arm: Provides more positive engagement against your workpiece edge.
- Spring-Loaded Base: Glides smoothly when unlocked, but remains “planted,” only moving when you want it to.
- Backward Compatible: Works with both Parallel Guide Systems (Gen 1 and 2).

Great Stops!
These new parallel guide flip stops are a massive improvement over the prior gen 1 parallel guide flip stops. I am not trying to disparage the gen1 flip stops - they work quite well, but the gen2 flip stops are truly a generational improvement over the gen1 stops. Calibration is a one time process and the settings hold even after detaching/reattaching the parallel guides and flip stops. The gen1 flip stops used a set screw to calibrate the stop and also for a collar to retain the calibration settings. However I found the gen 1 calibration rods were very sensitive and were almost always out of calibration each time I removed/reattached the parallel guides. These new stops are solid. They do not flex, and there is no discernible play when butting material against them. The gen1 stops had small but nontrivial amount of play, so you need to be extra careful not to shift them out of alignment/calibration. The gen2 stop design addressed issues of parallax - one of the biggest flaws with the gen1 stops. The old design had a narrow flip down piece of metal that would flex with any side-load, and were so thin that you needed to be directly above the stops looking down to mitigate the parallax effect to be able to set an accurate measurement. Now the cursor is part of the main aluminum body of the stop, and it’s very easy to accurately and repeatedly set the stops at a particular measurement. I have mixed feelings about the lack of narrow cut support with the new flip stops, but there is a separate standalone product from TSO for narrow rips - and a version that attaches to the gen2 parallel guides. I have the standalone narrow rip guide and it works quite well, but it can be tedious to need to swap them with the parallel guides if you only have 1 guide rail to use. I considered buying the gen2 parallel guides, but the new attachment mechanism seems nice but less impactful than the upgraded flip stops. Since I replaced the hex screws on the tpg adapters with star knobs, it’s not a big deal to loosen them to reposition or remove/reattach the parallel guides. I’m quite happy (and I assume many other gen1 parallel guide owners) that TSO made the new flip stops backward compatible as I get the improved accuracy of the gen2 system for a fraction of the price - albeit with fewer creature comforts.

Flip Stop Pro for TSO Parallel Guide System
The new generation 2 flip stop is so much better and more accurate than gen one. They are easier to set-up and much more accurate. The new method of calibration is so much better and much less fiddly to do. The new stops are much more rigid and don't flex like the gen 1 version. The new design to set your length is so good as you don't get any parallax error as you are looking down on a very thin guide line making it very accurate once calibrated and extremely easy to come back and repeat a cut after changing the guide stop.
